How to get credit after 80's repossession?

I'm actually asking this on behalf of my ex's new bf!
He can't get any credit be cause he & ex wife got repossessed in the 80's
He's built his credit rating up, but the repo is permanently on his credit file (albeit as cleared)
Each time he tries, they just use automated system that sees the repo and fails him instantly :-/

Any suggestions please?

He only want about £2-3k towards a car!

He's been told that the repossession can not be removed!
So can he speak to anyone about this?
    Thanks
  • As nottolate said it should only be on the credit file for six years. Are you sure he is not trying to use the house repo as an excuse for not being able to get credit? Perhaps he should get his credit report and see what is actually on there!
