We bought my father in law a rose from David Austin roses. They have hundreds of named roses (we gave 'the generous gardener'), delivered with instructions. As a previous poster said, he loves sending us pictures when it flowers.

We gave my Mum and MIL each a bracelet and necklace - same style, different colours. They were from Debenhams, and luckily on sale when I visited. Might be worth a look though :)

We gave my mum a painting from a set she loves and my MIL National Trust membership. 10 years later the membership is renewed (by MIL) yearly and the picture is still on the wall with others from the set.

  • I have a idea for you to make a special gift by yourself. First go to assemble you mom's the digital pictures, then download a Kvisoft flipbook maker, and then import those images into a personalized stunning page flip photo album to share her most precious memories and can publish online also.

I bought my bridesmaid a mirror compact and had thank you for being our bridesmaid from mr&mrs sweetilemon engraved on the front with our date. would be suitable for mothers too. I paid 14.99 but they are half price i think now grrr on confetti.com. I bought a nice gift box from john lewis and took it out the box it came in. It is really nice, just plain silver.

for the 80th present, what about room reeds? Its a nice scent for the house and something different. White company, m&s...loads of places do them!

What about this watch on a chain? Elegant for dress up but functional for day to day use.

I haven't thank you gifts for parent's as we've paid for it ourselves and they live away so haven't helped, but thank you presents for friends who've helped us include: weekends away, books, glasses, t_shirts, necklaces, bracelets and charms etc.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....
