Hi! I have a cardigan that I love to wear, but I've only worn it a couple of times because it bobbles like crazy! I only have to sit on the sofa and when I stand up the sofa is covered in fluff! Plus whatever I wear underneath also gets covered. I've tried washing it a few times but it doesnt seem to get any better. Does anyone have any tips?
Thanks!
Thanks!

no tips but the same problem with dd's red sweatshirt and for some reason she insists on wearing it with black trousers !This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I think the loose fibers thing is something that calms down with a few wash-and-wears of clothes but it does take a long while before it stops.
My mum has a throw which is on her sofa, the throw needs to be there as the sofa is leather and she has a cat with claws. But I wear black and every time I sit on the throw I end up covered in white fibers! Its been about 3 years now and my mum washes that thing very frequently, the fibers have decreased but they are still ruining my clothes so I wonder if some fabrics are just not meant to be fuzz free.
Things are made up with threads or yarn (think knitted or woven). To get threads or yarn fibers are spun together and wound so that the fibers stay together. However, if the fibers are too short or to weak and break in two it can result in the fibers bobbling or ending up on surrounding clothes. Sometimes things like static can weaken the fibers and as can washing on too high-a-temperature or rubbing the fabric.
You could try ironing with a tumble-drying-sheet between the iron and the garment which I have heard can help. Washing on cooler temperatures (ironing shouldn't be to big an issue to avoid btw as your not moving the top around much at all).- In terms of removing fluff and fibers on your other clothes, use masking tape or if its welded in use selotape, brown tape and so on but not gaffer tape as its very expensive and tends to leave a residue.
- You can also buy velour type brushes which do a decent job at picking up the fibers (one way to pick up fluff the opposite way to get the fluff off the brush). Often found in a pound shop near you.
- A cheaper version of the above is to wet your hand and then rub in one direction along the fabric the fluff is stuck onto, it should pick up some of the fluff but does take some time and can get a bit messy.

Thank you for your replies! I will try washing it at a lower temp and invest in some tumble drying sheets!0
