Wedding Present - Cash

Hi All,
I've 2 wedding coming up for friends of mine and I plan to give both parties cash, what is a respectable amount? I'm not in the good books with one of my friends as I went missing for most of their pre wedding party weekend (the demon drink) so I'm determined to get this right.
Thanks in advance

It depends on what you earn and what spare money you have available.
I've given £50 to family members at recent weddings.
To be honest, if someone got upset at me for reasons like that, I'd be thinking about how genuine a friend they are.0 -
Bringing someone to 1 of the weddings but I'm going alone to the second (really dreading that).0

I would give more when bringing a +1 (well, OH). It's also influenced by how much you can afford.7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs

Why didn't they allow you a +1? Will you know other friends at the wedding? If not, that's very unfair of them xx7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs

Well I guess they knew I was single, anyway I was thinking around £150 for each wedding so I seem to be on the money.0

OH and I went to 2 weddings last weekend - one a good school friend of his, and the other a uni friend of mine. We gave OH's school friend £60 and my uni friend £50 between us. Had we not had to factor in hotels (costing £160 for one wedding and £75 for the other) and petrol, we would have given more.
When I was a bridesmaid for my best friend a few years ago and I went alone, I think I spent about £100 on gifts, as well as paying for accommodation & buying my bridesmaid dress, and taking a week off work to help them out with prep. Although at that time I was a bit more carefree with no wedding of my own to pay for or house to save up for!
Go with what you can afford and feel comfortable giving - the main thing is they have invited you to share the day with them, not how much money they are getting from guests!!MFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0 -
I agree with those who said give what you can afford and feel comfortable giving - when my sisters got married I gave one of them £20 of John Lewis vouchers and the other got a teapot I'd painted at one of those pottery painting places which I think cost about £30 total. That might not seem like a lot to some people but I was a student at the time so to me it was quite a lot of money. Since I've got older and been with my OH we've been able to give slightly more, normally about £50 between us.
