Visit the branch. With their internal scoring system they can pretty much tell you there and then whether you'd be accepted for a loan. They can also give you a very accurate idea of how much this loan will cost you. The good thing is they can do this without the need to credit score you. Also the loan, if approved, Will be in your account by the end of the appointment.
As mentioned before, your sons mortgage company Will not accept a loan for the deposit on a house so this would need to be declared as a gift.

I know a lot of middle age people at work, where they have been offered 29% on 8k
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I know alot of younger people that have been offered 9.9%. Its down to their internal risk score. The higher the interest rate, the greater the risk. Middle age does not indicate good money management, their account conduct does.

Perhaps they should have applied online.
  • I'm not 100% sure we will get accepted although we do need a loan, so any help will be very useful. I don't think our credit score is too bad and haven't got alot of debt, plus the mortgage is paid off if that's a bonus or not

I have had 2 loans from Halifax. If you apply in branch you will be ripped off, it's cheaper online (less APR) and often in branch if something is referred they cant give you an instant decision anyway! - frustration.com!

So my advice is to look on your online banking, go under personal loans, a quote form will come up, bash in the amount you want over the selected period, and it will give you an idea of apr they might offer you. If you are happy with it, hit apply.

Mine didnt even show up a search on experian which is who they use, so they obviously accepted it based on internal credit scoring.

    Good luck!
