Electoral Roll problems

Hi All,

Right, so I've checked my credit file, established with the lender that it offers no real big obstacles, but I'm having an issue with the Electoral Roll.

Despite adding myself to the roll months ago, Experian claim that I'm not on it, and my local council want forever to get back to confirm this. I enquired about adding myself as a double precaution, and my local council informed me that if I add myself now, because the roll is 'frozen' at the moment, it will be October 16th before I am added.

!!!!!!?

I've spoken to some people, and got a bit of advice on this, and have been told that if not on the roll for one reason or another, you can sometimes work around this by providing other proof that you live at the address (this advice came from experian).

If anyone knows anything useful about this situation, or avoiding the annual freeze of the electoral roll, that would be gratefully received.

If anyone wants to join in and rant about a system that is legally tied into credit referencing being so useless, that would be therapeutic.

Thanks all!

Your local council seems a bit Mickey Mouse? Did you speak to a superior? as Local Council staff are inherently poorly trained, narrow minded and unnecessarily contemptuous of the general public.

I had the same problem with Equifax. I wasn't on the electoral register, so 6 weeks before I applied fo my mortgage, I registered at Worcester City Council who sent me a letter 3 weeks later confirming I was on the next month's electoral roll. I needed this letter to prove to the underwriters I was registered, which they have seemed to have accpeted (its still ongoing) After 3 weeks being on the electoral roll Experian updated my records, raising my credit score 30 points, but Equifax have still yet to do so.

I'd try and complain to your local council about the electoral roll problem, seems very long time to wait. What if there's a by-election. Seems strange.
