Who doesn't have a stock cupboard

I have always kept a basic store cupboard with essentials (for me) including:
- Herbs and spices
- Tins - tuna, toms, veg, beans
- Pasta, cous cous, rice, pulses
- Baking - flour, sugar, yeast, bits and pieces
- Stock and sauces
- Hot drinks - tea, coffee, chocolate
- Jars - peanut butter, jam, pickles etc
- Puddings - jelly, rice, meringue nests, angel delight
Aside from foods I also have a store of medical supplies both prescription and general first aid supplies for a variety of things so that again if we take ill we do not have to go out. Toiletries and other essentials are bought when on offer and stored.
We are lucky in that we have loads of storage space in our home so stocking up is easy to do. Much easier to add a few things to the shopping each week and build it up gradually than to go out and buy things all at once!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

I have decided to use only the things in my store cupboard for meals - apart from fresh fruit and veg. It will make sure that everybody enjoys what I cook, I try and do this every other month using different recipes, so that I have a good repertoire at my fingertips, plus it helps with stock rotation. All I have to do at the end of the week is replace what I have used.
Never done the 7 day no spend challenge but sometimes due to my health problems I might not get out to shop for weeks and as hubby hates shopping with a passion I will only ask him to pick up things like milk and thanks to store cupboard we have gone as long as a month without me getting to shops and apart from him going and buying a weeks supply of milk( we used skimmed which keeps so long in fridge) we never went short - ok had to use frozen veg and fruit but still eat quite normally.
Now I have the dehydrator I can add dried fruit and vegetables to my stocks as they are expensive to buy.
I do keep a few 4pt cartons of milk in the freezer( I use and replace this every month plus half a dozen long life milks and if they are not needed will just use them in place of fresh milk in cooking before dates and replace them).
Even thought I make my own bread if I see bread reduced I will pick it up if works out cheaper than I can make it and freeze some - couple of weeks ago MR S had reduced all the bread dated that day by 5pm and were charging 10p for everything be it a full size french stick, a baton or a loaf normally costing 1.84 so I bought as much as I knew I had room in freezer for.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Remember when I mentioned two tents in Tesco's for £19.99(I did not buy as it happens)but they have been moved to another part of thestore and have gone up in price to £39.99."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

is it lazy to ask if there is a comprehensive stock cupboard suggestion list?

I didn't until i read this thread, (not sure if it's a good thing) but it has motivated me to clear out my utility/junk room. Cost £100 to skip all the junk that's been in there for years but is now being painted and ready to be turned into a store room!!!!!!!
Not only have i gained an extra room, but i've also started planning for the future (oh's job is only contracted for another 6 months!) i'm lucky enough to have the spare space though xxI will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)
Card #2 £6. I will not be skint at Chistmas this year!
Total £560 -
I never used to have a store coubard, until a few years ago and we had reasonabley bad snow. and it was hard to get the basics like bread and milk.
Since then ive at least tried to ensure ive had in things like extra cartons of milk, rice, pasta, tins of soup, loo rolls, washing up liquid, washing powder and so on.
i try to keep it topped up, especially on offers, depending on what i have in already and gradually build it up if i need to. like at the moment ive only got a few tins of soup and macaroni cheese in?
even without the weather i find it always handy to have plenty stashed away, just in case. you dont know what around the corner and im often concerned that im not prepaired.0
