Re the cat litter toilet. If the water is off you can empty any remaining water in the toilet bowl and place your plastic bag with cat litter in that to use. Much more comfy :)

Pah thanks for the tip with the fondue set. I have a chocolate one but it would easily hold a tin of beans or soup. I have a couple of hundred tea lights but could do with more. I have experimented with tea lights under the grids/racks on my gas cooker ( the gas had run out) and managed to do scrambled eggs. They took ages though because the eggs were straight out of the fridge.

GQ my Aussie friend who lives near Perth WA came over three years ago and she was shocked at the sheer variety of goods in our supermarkets. They have only in recent years started to see "economy" packs of cereals etc. There were not enough people before for the stores to bother stocking large packs.

Kiwisaver I wonder how many people remember the toilet roll shortage and how a lorry load was delivered to downing street. They said it was just a normal delivery. Yeah right. :(

While I remember you can dehydrate frozen veg and no need to blanch as it is already done. Just dump it in the trays and switch on. I am going to do some peas this week.

Thanks for the tip about the frozen veg, will remember that. Am having so much fun with my dehydrator at the moment - house at moment smells of cooking vegetables as carrots, broccoli and onions are in it at the moment.

Took the potatoes out of the potato planter ( I got 15lbs from one small seed one quartered so pleased with that) will decide how I am going to do them tomorrow and then they can be added to my store in the freezer.

Spare freezer is now in its permanent home so after letting the gas bottle settle over night will switch it on tomorrow then freeze all that bread and vegetables.

    Thanks

"We have via freecycyle just managed to get a brand new portapotty - but only as good as long as I have somewhere to dump the waste safely and have the chemicals to dissolve it ( have bought ones that help not harm the environment but they are not cheap and so far only have one bottle, so still keeping my stock of cat litter and bin bags and a bucket."

You don't have to use the "special" chemicals in a portapottie, you can use a capful of bio washing liquid - it does the same job but more cheaply. Buy the cheapest one you can get. We've been doing this when away in the motorhome for more than 2 years now and it really works.

This site will give you all the info you need to freeze veg and there is a downloadable pdf chart for blanching times.

Well I have had a shock this morning. A friend who in no way can be called a prepper or someone who has a proper storecupboard asked me if I had my go bag ready! I was not sure what she meant because we had never ever talked about such things so she explained it was an emergency bag to just pick up and go like some had to in Hebden bridge a couple of weeks ago. All I can say is wow if she is thinking about it then everybody better get one packed. She meant a bug out bag :) go bag sounds more English though :).

I bought a Stanley tool box on wheels and all of our important documents are in there, Birth certificates, NHS details, repeat prescriptions, insurance , mortgage details, pensions etc , ready to go when we are. All the Bug out bags are in the cupboard in the hall and we always keep the car topped up with petrol. I must check the tents and see if they are in need of repair
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I don't have a go/bug out bag as such but could turn my ruck sack into one quite quickly and stick a few things into it at short notice. Or if I stop using it for shopping(and use the shopping trolley all the time in future instead)but I'd have decide what is important to put inside.

I don't suppose I will go as far as to having a tent and I would probably have to leave(when I get them)my laterns etc...being single/no transport I can only carry so much. The stove and similar items are for use if the power goes off and I can remain in my home. Having to actually leave your home is quite different.

But documents, meds and similar I could take with me...if it was practical I could fill up the shopping trolley with extra bulky things at a push but I would have to think what exactly.

I am more prepared for emergencies than I have ever been in my life.

Short of us actually blowing the earth up, the earth tears itself apart or an asteroid or similar hitting us the earth will continue until the sun starts to die and engulfs us as it grows and changes.

Now whether mankind will continue to exist on the earth now that is a different matter but the earth can carry on quite happily without us - sobering thought isn't it......

Anyway my latest dehydrating seems to have gone ok so I have now added dried onions, carrots and broccili to my stores......I plan for changes not end of world senarios ( they would be pointless wouldn't they ) and changes are certainly afoot be they big or small.

I have just ordered lock and lock boxes to store some dehydrated bits so don't have to rely on keeping them all frozen.

Denise thank you for the bio washing liquid tip - I have one bottle that I picked up for emergencies Mr S basics, so will add another few to my stores over the weeks. I love it when things have more than one use so can wash the clothes or used in the portapotty, wonderul:T

Oh I must admit :o at this moment in time I have no BOBs as took last lot apart to update and rotate the food and decided to wash the clothes in there and not put them back together again - that was a month ago, so you know what I will be doing this week:rotfl: You have all put me to shame :rotfl::rotfl:
