not sure what to do if anything

Where to begin... to give a quick brief, it's likely I have BPD, not diagnosed officially yet but it's darn safe to say I've got a disorder or two. Recently social workers got involved and i've had an assessment done as I'm solely responsible for my 1 year old twice a week. (I live with my child/gf)

I left work 18 months ago, I was in employment for over 6 years, although I was late every single day, had long lunch hours, spent hours outside smoking, yet never got fired because of my unique skills are hard to find (I guess with my 'disorders' there are at least some positives)

In the 18 months of unemployment, I've manage to rack up at least 15,000 worth of debt, during 95% of this time, I had no intention of defaulting, always putting in money from my girlfriend/benefits to maintain a sensible figure, but my crazy spending habbits and memory loss just drove it to an unmanageable figure.

I do not work, I will not be working full time for at least another 2 years. My only hope of ever being employed is running my own business as working for others is a obvious no-no (my previous employers stated this too)

Now for the last 3 months my 4th bank account went into default, along with 3 credit cards, and 2 mobile phone contracts (1 SIM only, another galaxy S2 which the screen broke when it dropped)

So, my income is £0, I don't have an expensive life anymore, no car etc., kind of shut myself away on computers. I live with my gf that works 24 hours a week, and we get the usual tax credits etc.

But... baliffs are going to be knocking on the door, and if someone was to enter my home without permission it's likely my reaction ill land me in prison.

Not sure what to do really. Is it possible for a mental health professional to contact these debt companies or something along those lines?

Mental Health charities won't get directly involved but will signpost you to agencies such as CAB. Can you get yourself to your local Citizens Advice Bureau? I would take the details and paperwork to them that shows them your incomings and outgoings and while you are there they can make sure you are claiming all that you are able to claim.

Hi maskofsanity and Welcome to the Bankruptcy (BR) Board. Please do as Pippa has suggested and contact one of the following debt charities. Please try these they don't charge and are impartial. They will go through all your options with you and if they suggest bankruptcy then come back to this board and we will help you all we can. Also if your not ‘clicking’ with one of the Debt charities do try another. We advise you to try at least two others for your own piece of mind. Your BR could be refused if you have not sought advice.

ok my girlfriend handles all money like benefits, her wages etc. since I simply cannot. So my income is £0. I suppose technically she looks after me at the moment, even gets my clothes ready for me. Sounds !!!!!! sure, and it is, but I really do struggle with alot of basic stuff in life. 3 years ago I was earning £6000 a month after tax, even bought my folks an all paid holiday to the USA - my life is lived on the extreme you could say.

The fact that your gf handles your money doesn't mean your income is naught, just you don't have access to your income but the income still needs to be declared. Maybe she will need to go along with you to your appointment in order to help you and demonstrate what your income is. Is she your DWP representative? Does your DWP correspondance go directly to her? Are your payments paid into her account or yours but she has control of it? Either way, it is your money and belongs to you, but there are many people who wisely allow someone else to look after it so you are not alone and no, it's not '!!!!!!' (hate that term) merely sensible at times.

  • So my girlfriends wages, and the tax credits etc. are something I'd add to MY income?

No, you don't add them to your wages. When you fill in the forms you put your joint household bills, your personal bills, your full income and what your GF contributes to the joint household bills. The OR may want proof of what your GF earns just to show she does not earn more than you but contributes less.
