I’m in the squeezed middle but I don’t feel particularly squeezed but then it doesn’t take into your outgoings.

You are the super-rich, super-beautiful, super succesful, superbly smelling and in the top income bracket. This is thanks to your superior intelligence, and excellent work ethics.

Just had to try this out.

According to what I tell HMRC about my income, I live in poverty. That's the figure to use isn't it?

Other statistics confirm I live in fuel poverty - draughty big old house I can't 'afford' to heat, apparently.

    Still, musn't grumble.

thankfully nearer the top than the bottom. after tax income's a pain to remember, though. i'm sure that many people with a partner or spouse who works would struggle to recall their OH's net figure off the top of their head.

Yes I realise that it is flawed, it is s pity that it didn't consider assets,.

But assets ARE wealth. Income isn't. So it isn't just flawed, it is entirely wrong!

to be fair only wookster's subject title mentions "wealth", the article only touches on it, the numbers are clearly about income.

Errr flawed = wrong! Luckily although our income comes out strong, however the value of our income is dwarfed by the value of our assets

    in the squeezed middle
    'comfortable'!
    You are in poverty.
nearer the top than the bottom..

That's weird. It didn't say any of that for me....

    All it said was:

"Dear Hamish, would you like to adopt a Guardian Journalist?" ;)

I've got plenty of assets, but vary my income to my needs. Even the properties break even some years, if they've needed work doing to them. So using the caculator I could be on the verge of Poverty one year and in the top one percent the next! Although it usually works out that I keep my income as a minimum, and draw down on savings when necessary.
