You don't have to read many financial forums to come across people who've been threatened by debt collectors for a debt they don't owe. Depending on the amount many people just pay up. For the lucky ones the media gets involved and the company claims some error.
Why are some of the UK's largest companies allowed to do/get away with this? legalised racketeering????
Also I've noticed that people start off with a debt of X yet the final amount paid can be many many times that original sum after 'charge' upon 'charge' are added to the original debt with impunity. It seems to me that the lenders are abusing there position of power. Is there nothing to stop this?
Cheers

On the second point, it's in the T&C folk sign up to, but probably do not read. On paper consumers (I hate that term) have the choice where they shop but in reality most who find themselves in this position had little choice at that stage (how they got there is subjective). As long as we live in a world where instant gratification outweighs sustainability (in more sense than one) this will be with us.
By the way nice Avatar, reminds me of Dune - greatest sci-fi sequence ever!0
