Starting to lose hope

I'm really feeling the strain of job hunting. I worry that I'll never find a job! I've had two offers but they've mostly just messed me about. The first one told me (the night before I was due to start) that the funding for a scheme they were running had been withdrawn by the government, but she'd be in touch soon.. Yeah, that was a while ago. I've not heard a peep since & don't expect to. And the second one is dragging his feet, sorting out the position.. I've been waiting for him to sort this stuff out for at least a month now, with no end in sight. I keep emailing him, making sure he's aware I'm still available & to nudge him to get the work sorted.
The applications I keep sending out, I hear nothing back from most of them. I have had a few interviews, one of which is detailed above, the second they decided to restructure & no longer needed the administrator & the third never bothered to get back in touch. Rude.
I am at a loss. Someone reassure me things will turn around for me soon. I'm really low on money & not entitled to JSA, the type of job I can do is limited because of an accident late last year, so despite having experience in several different areas, I can only realistically work in admin now. I just wish someone would reply to one of my lovely applications.

go into office of 2nd one, ask when you can start. It may force their hand, but then at least you will know either way!
Don't EVER give up.Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
He doesn't have an office, he has an online business. I'm not sure that would be the best way to get a job :S0

As you are looking for admin roles would it be possable for you to register with some recruitment agencies in your area? All of my long term jobs have started that way and I stayed for 5 and 7.5 years respectively!
I'm afraid some potential employers (and employers!) will mess you around. For your sake draw a line under them, forget them and move on.
I'm Sure things will change-the past doesn't have to equal the futureThanks to all posters for your never ending help and support:beer:0 -

it's ok to feel low. I completely understand, I was made redundant in February after a very long and drawn out process so I know it is not a nice situation to be in and the longer it goes the harder it can get.
But keep going: register with agencies, chase up applications if no one comes back to you. If you get a rejection after interview, ask for feedback and don't take it personally, it hardly ever is. Don't dwell on the 'no', that is all in the past, take the feedback and move on. Take it in and incorporate to the next interview/application. Think positive, and when you start to feel low, remember that nothing lasts forever. Not even this patch of unemployment. Even if there are no jobs to apply for on a particular day, do something, like arranging your diary, send an email to chase or fix an appointment with an agency. I know is hard, but you have to keep going, don't ever give up. Because eventually, you will have gt yourslef to a better situation in interviews and applications and will find an employer who can see what you have to offer.
I finally got the offer for the job I wanted just today, after a very long and hard process. That was after countless applications and many, many interviews (since March, pretty much once a week or so) and same name of rejections. So it is possible, don't give up!!
Good luck.

If an employer messes you around, they are clearly not the one for you. Keep looking at the reality of it in that way.0 -

Hi
Just been made redundant from a role helping others in this very situation, ironic eh?
Anyhow, from the work I have done and the research for it, I am trying to remain optimistic although I recognise it's early days.
Statistically the most successful ways of finding jobs are through personal and professional networks rather than doing your own research on the net or using agencies, since the vast majority of jobs are not advertised or filled in the conventional fashion. Ideally if you combine these routes the opportunities available will increase and it may be that you find an appointment without the arduous processes of application and interview. Social networking both virtually and online is also becoming more and more important. You also need to make sure that you are not boxing yourself off too much in terms of the transferability of your skills and where you are trying to sell them.
You could do worse than visit your local library and borrow "What Colour is Your Parachute?" which gives some valuable insight into how all of this works.
Good luck!0 -
I'm guessing the second one's an entrepreneur, business isn't picking up as well as he expected, and he's decided so long as he can handle the work load he'd rather do it than pay someone else.Wanted a job, now have one. :beer:0

There are plenty of retail stores around, but unfortunately, due to an accident last September, I can't stand for long periods of time.. I've been applying for only admin jobs for this very reason. It's frustrating. Before my accident, I had my own business! I was doing really well & then suddenly I couldn't do it any more. I have experience in several different areas, but now I can only use the admin side of it. I do point out my transferable skills to potential employers so it doesn't seem as though I've just wasted my time.0 -

Could you find somebody physically able, keen, but unable to do the admin side to enter into partnership with you to resurrect your previous business?
You do the admin, they do the physical. Two winners.0
