Merseyside, The Jobs Desert of the UK

Merseyside has got to be the jobs desert of the UK. Fed up with the jobless hole. Wish I could get out.

I know we have few jobs round here, but The Range announced last week that they are opening a branch in St. Helens, creating up to 150 jobs (mix of part time and full time).

    Not for me,

I left Merseyside in 1988 to join the Civil Service, returned in 1992 and am still working for the Civil Service now (in a permanent full time job).

Are there still vacancies? Where do I apply? What is the closing date?

if you think Merseyside is bad don't bother moving to the North East, it's even worse :(

(I grew up in merseyside and a lot of my family are still there so I know it's not great there too)

Ive seen jobs for The Range advertised on direct.gov, you could try the range website or even search for the range jobs/vacancies.

I've no idea where to apply to, but it was only in the local paper last week and the store isn't ready yet. It's going to be in the old tesco in the town centre, so easily accessible if you need to use public transport. There is also a large car park if you have your own car.

You could try St. Helens Job Centre to see if any vacancies have been advertised yet (nothing in local press yet). You could also contact The Range directly - you never know, expressing an interest at this early stage might give you an edge.

Also, since I posted earlier, I've seen an advert in Morrisons (Baxter's Lane branch) for staff for a new convenience store. It was on a sandwich board and I was in a rush, so I don't have full details, but I think the location was Upton Rocks. It might be worth checking with Morrisons about any vacancies there.

    Good luck x

Thank you so much. Will check those vacancies out. I badly need a job.

for work but I do know that the Linpak factory are always needing staff if you dont mind working 12 hours a shift - but the benefits if you are full time are quite considerable.

Think you have to go through an agency first- thats what my friend did but give them a bell and find out. Factory work packing the take away boxes but hell, its a job.

    And good luck.

Same in my part of West Yorks, hence why I commute to London. Not ideal but needs must and all that.

use direct.gov.uk there are loads! I just picked the first job types that came up when I typed in admin:

There are 47 results from your search for administrative assistant, civil service administrative officer and local government administrator jobs in Merseyside.

This search is for postcode L6 4DR with a radius of 5 miles.

    :)
