HELP! 3 course meal for 2

Hi, I would like to cook my boyfriend of 3.5 years a 3 course meal tonight.

I know it's last minute but we have the house (and I have the kitchen!) to ourselves at his so I don't need to worry about people getting in the way whilst I'm cooking and will be a nice surprise for him to come home from work to!

I'm a pretty decent cook, just lacking in ideas! I was thinking maybe some kind of soup to start? I have the "new covent garden soup for every day" book if that helps. Was thinking maybe carrot and coriander or some kind of spicy parnsip soup maybe but can't think what to do about main, preferably something fancier that pasta and definately no fish.

Then maybe creme brulee or something not as stodgy as chocolate?

Thanks to anyone who can help, I'm open to lots of ideas!

My favourite starter to do is either tomato bruschetta or asparagus wrapped in parma ham.

Chop some lovely baby toms with red onion, smother in olive oil and some balsamic vinegar, some fresh basil leaves, salt and pepper and leave for at least an hour to marinade. Slice some bruchetta, toast under the grill and serve :-)

Or boil asparagus for like 1min, wrap a slice of parma ham round 3 bits of the drained asparagus and fry in a griddle pan for a min or two, season and serve with some nice goats cheese :-)
Can't think of anything smart to put here...

Thanks zepsgal, I hadn't thought of bruschetta! Will definitely look into it!
