    Very true.

Does anyone have any tips for making onions last longer?

I ordered four bags thinking there was only a couple in a bag, now have 40 onions when I only need 14! They go out of date on the 15th apparently.

They're quite small so I can double up in my soup mix but that only uses up 28!

I have something similar to diabetes (sucrase iso-maltase deficiancy) and avoid sugar altogether. The sugar substitutes are so bad for you!

We dont have animals to feed, but there are two adults in the family (me and Hubby) who have healthy appetites and we manage on around £20 per week - and we live well at that.

I struggle to understand how you can. I spend nearly that on fruit, veg & salad for 2 a week.
    Do you grow your own?

Our new food budget is £76 a fortnight & that's for 2 adults, 6 cats, a dog, 2 fish, all the cleaning supplies & delivery charge.

Freezer? Either cooked or just blanched and frozen in portions for adding to stews etc. Or you can freeze them spread out on baking sheets and then when they've hardened, stick them in an ice cream tub. They won't all be free flowing, but a bit of a bash with a spoon and the right amount will come loose for you no problem.

Might help with a few of them anyway!

Our freezers pretty full at the minute. I'll just try & use them up fast lol my nan said they last a while anyway.

I just found a pack of Halloween cookie cutters I bought & never used :-) guess what I want to make now haha! I'll wait until October though, gives me time to figure out a decent sugar free recipe

Are you using cash back sites for your shopping? If not now is the time to start.
One more tip, if you start using another shop for say a month, they will suddenly start sending you more offers like free delivery and money off coupons, but watch out because if you go through a cash back site you may not be able to use the coupons, you have to weigh what is best for you on the given week.

I'd wrap them individually in newspaper so and stick them in a box under the stairs or in the back of a dark press. They should stay dry and in decent shape then. I'd give them a check through every week though - you'll know which ones are next in the eating order :)

Don't worry too much about the date on the onions, first of all take them out of any plastic bags that they are in, freeze as many as you can, put the others in the bottom of the fridge, or look for a french onion soup recipie that will use up a few, sausages with onion gravy.
The important thing is to get them out of plastic, if they look good smell good and taste good them heck what the date tells you, the stores do that hoping that you will ditch them and go and buy more.
Use that fancy dangle thing that you used for making the crisps and freeze them, in wait for when you have used the fresh ones.

For now I've put all the potatoes and onions in a box in a cupboard. Potatoes will last long enough & get used fairly quick. Going to add onion to various meals now to use them up lol
