Mortage Broker hell

I have the worst mortage advisor who has made the following mistakes on my mortage applications.

On the first application he put my time at address as 4 years instead of 5 years 8 months. I am still waiting for him to correct this.

I had a DIP from another advisor and today went and saw the broker to do the full application. I was shown a question on the screen that just said have you lived at your adress more than 3 years and the broker ticked yes.

The broker said that there is no other question asking you to give the date that you moved into your current address.

The broker kept yawning he then printed the application form that he sent to the provider and I checked it briefly. I double checked the form when I got home and noticed the error saying that I have lived at my current address for one month.

I now have two searches for mortages with different providers saying that I have been living at my address for one month and four years instead of five years and 8 months.

I am so !!!!ed off.

    Were not all that bad...honest.

If i was in an appointment with an advisor who was yawning i would be walking out. At the end of the day, your technically his/her boss as your the one paying them.

It probably goes without saying but if you have paid a fee and your not happy i would be asking for it back. Maybe also see if theyre on something like freeindex.co.uk and leave a review.

Moral of the story is ALWAYS check and double check any documentation completed on your behalf by A.N.Other.

Which is why I always gave any apps to the individuals to complete themselves (which I then checked over) .... whilst I busied myself with preparing the other POS documentation - that way only they could make a "mistake" with incorrectly entered data or dates ;) .

With regards to the 2nd app - simply advise the lender of the correct data, with supporting evidence as they may require.

    Hope this helps

To be perfectly honest, its hardly mortgage broker hell!!

Yes the form should really be accurate but its not exactly a major question - and half our clients can never remember all their dates exactly so the dates arent totally accurate.

At the end of the day the lender will check you against the voters roll and if you are on it they are the dates they will use - irrelevent of what is on the form. If you are not on the voters roll they will ask for documentation for the dates they need such as council tax bills or bank statements for whatever period their criteria dictates.

Did you actually leave your first broker because of this?
    The yawny one sounds worse

Its the same broker for both applications and I am not using him anymore. I applied directly to the lender got a new DIP.

Rather than worry about the broker. Maybe you should have read what you were signing.

I was not there when he did the first application and I only found out when I checked my credit file. I did not sign anything for the applications the broker applied for them on my behalf. The broker asked me verbally how long that I have been living at my current address.

I will be more careful in the future and thanks for the comments but I am sorted now.

I have nothing against brokers and I am sure that there are some good ones out there. I just had a bad experience and prefer to deal directly with the bank.

Yes, they seem to have handled it badly.

However they probably knew that the lender only asks that question because if you moved within the last 3 years they would need previous addresses.

It would be unlikely to affect your application.

If the advisor was disinterested I'm going to guess he was a fee's free broker and that he had the feeling you wouldn't be buying his insurance.

As I always say, if you want minimal cost and your case is straight forward, go direct to lender.
