My ex partner has cleared off - I dont know a forwarding address. Ive found since he has gone that he has loads of debt that he obviously has no intention of paying. We have no joint bank accounts etc - and none of the debt is in my name and I havent signed for any of it- but i am worried that i will be landed with it. Can anyone offer any help/reassurance? (We werent married, and dont have the same name). thanks

Basically no. Even if you did have joint accounts. Only thing I can think of would be if there was council tax debt and you lived together. Someone should be along soon to give you a more detailed explanation!March'13 - Debt £13000 :eek:Total % paid - 0%0

Worry no more!
As long as the debts were in your ex's sole name, you don't have to pay a penny of it.

I just watched a video from Martin Lewis on this, he says, you cant have a joint credit card but you can add additional people to one, with loans you can have a joint loan of course.
Unless the credit is in your name, you have nothing to worry about.
I would double check your credit report to ensure he has not been trying, also worth mentioning to them you have split up and any attempt in your name constitutes as fraud as you have not given him authorisation to do so.0 -

As above - nothing to worry about at all except the council tax, which you are jointly liable for. You can now get a 25% reduction on that nw for single occupancy too.0 -
The council tax isnt a problem - I have had his name removed and I pay that anyway by DD. It seems he has taken out a load of payday loans (idiot!) plus his car was on HP (he even abandoned the car!) and he had at least 1 personal loan! There were also several mobile phone accounts that he had - I guess they havent been paid either. I only knew about these debts after he had left - as I have seen his email account - and had to open some post in order to get the addresses to return to sender! I hope he is found and done for fraud! thanks everyone for your reassurance. I may be able to sleep tonight now.0

Don't open the mail though - return to sender unopened - they will eventually stop sending then.0 -
Wish he'd taken my OH & his debts with him :mad:Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0

I was in a similar situation to you, although I was unfortunately married to the idiot! So therefore apparently I am liable as they can be classified as "Matrimonial debts"
People like mine and your ex make me sick!! Getting back on the Wagon after falling with a thump!
