Would you eat some cheese (edam) that's a week past it's best before date, but that smells and looks fine? I can't decide whether I'm being overly fussy, or whether it would be disgusting

If it smells and looks fine, I'd eat it.
Remember, all cheeses ripen before you get them anyway - what's another week on that?Save the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate!0 -
Absolutely, I do it all the time.Oh dear, here we go again.0

Yes, definitely. The only cheese I don't eat is if it's gone dry and hard.I am not stubborn. I am merely correct.0

I don't think there is a problem at all here - we've been known to cut the green mould off the cheese and eat it  we're still here to tell you about it."It is always the best policy to speak the truth-unless, of course, you are an exceptionally good liar." - Jerome K Jerome0

Don't be brainwashed. That's why so much food is being thrown out these days! If it looks and smells OK then use it.0

I would, as long as I wasn't in an 'at risk' category, yknow preganant/elderly/child... although if i was a child I might...i used to eat stones...0

If cheese dries out, I chuck it in the food processor with a couple of slices of bread, whizz it all up together & then sprinkle it over shepherds pie or fish pie or something similar & it makes a lovely crispy topping.

Been using a piece of Parmesan tonight with a BBE date of October '06:D0

It will be fine. As long as you don't eat any mould. Dont forget it probably took 6-9 months to mature into cheese at the Dairy/factory, what harm can another week do?0
