since you dont have an ice cream machine, what about making gelato?
less fat than ice cream, smoother flavour, and less air needs incorporated?
i make gelato more than ice cream, simply because of flavour
i feel an experiment coming on
and no one likes peanut butter in our house:rotfl:
**likes a challenge**:D
I need a few spare hours and then there will be some experimenting happening here. I have 2 jars of value peanut butter in the cupboard I must have bought to make cookies, and a jar of condensed milk, just need to get some peanuts and make some fudge-y sauce as the icecream had that in too I think. Did I mention that it may have had some calories in?:eek:0 -
Thankyou I will give that one a try too. All in the name of science of course.midnightraven3 wrote: »to make a "peanut butter flavouring" for ice cream, whizz up a handful of skinned peanuts with a teaspoon of oil, peanut oil is good but any will do
its very concentrated as a peanut butter spread but as a flavouring for ice cream its ideal
if you find its too dry, add a little honey
making ice cream with a can of value custard, vanilla extract and a tub of cream in a shallow container would be fine for this, as said before, draw the frozen edges in, ice cream really needs air incorporated
without a maker you will have a rich ice cream (more suited to a little bit on the side of an apple pie etc rather than a dish of only ice cream for a child) IYSWIM0 -
We had a delicious peanut butter ice cream dessert at a smart restaurant several years ago - best dessert ever! And the saltiness of the peanut butter was part of the deliciousness.
When (if) we ever get a summer I will try the banana ice cream with peanut butter added, I make it a lot but never thought to add peanut butter!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
I used frozen bananas and whizzed them up with a good tbsp of peanut butter and it made great, instant peanut butter ice cream!
Wow, what a great idea. The very best milkshake ever imo is banana and peanut butter with vanilla icecream...not too sweet, and one of those things where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.0 -
Taken from Ben and Jerry's Ice cream book. Have never tried it but maybe I should do as we LOVE PB in our house.
Base
2 lg eggs
¾ cup sugar
2 c whipping cream
1 c milk
1. whisk eggs in mixing bowl until light and fluffy
2 whisk in sugar little at a time until completely blended
3 pour in cream and milk and whisk to blen
prepare base above
pour about 1c of base into separate bowl and whisk in 1/3 c smooth peanut butter a little at a time
return peanut butter mix to remaining base & stir until well blended
transfer to ice cream maker & freeze following manufacturer's instructions
option 1 add 1/3 c chopped roasted peanuts about 5 mins before ice cream is done & continue freezing until ready
option 2 add ¾ c semi sweet choc chips about 2 mins before done & continue freezing until ready
It is a great book with loads of good ice cream recipes in

The most simple ice cream base recipe in the world:
1 large tub of double cream
1 can consensed milk.
Whip until is resembles clotted cream, swirl in whatever flavour you fancy and stick it in the freezer for around 4 hours. No need to stir at all, it doesn't go icey like other bases.
This weekend we're having chocolate sauce and chocolate chunks, last weekend we had strawberry and meringue. Peanut butter and caramel sauce would be divine.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

I have some serious icecream making to do as soon as I have finished decluttering (the end is in sight!), but in my continued quest I found this recipe which looks very like the M&S version

I'm presuming that Mimic Cream is just a substitute for whipping cream. Check out the peanut butter candy that goes in it. Told you there were lots of calories involved. Mind you, if you think that's bad have a look at the peanut butter fudge icecream pie!
