Solar Lights

Me again, hope no one minds me asking lots of questions.

It's just that with my mum looking after the youngest one at my home while I go on holiday I want everything to look nice.

Does anyone know of any cheap solar lights? I don't want ones that plug in.


I have quite a long garden so will need about 10 of them.

Plenty on ebay - eg pack of 10 here for £32.98 incl next day delivery (no connection - I just searched on solar garden lights).

I have seen similar lamps for sale in my local outdoor market at around £10 for 4. I expect the quality varies considerably - you won't want to buy 10 lamps unless you are happy with the quality, and can return them if you are not.

For comparison, Argos are selling 3 lamps for £14.99

I don't know exactly what you're after, but we had four on spikes in the front garden from Dyas. They lasted about 6 months before they were nicked. They took a bally long time to charge up initially, so get them in good time, especially if where you plan to install them doesn't get direct sunlight for most of the day!

Looking out for some myself... have seen nice ones on spikes in TJ Hughes, Glynweb & Tradex. I second the bit about the light they produce though - mum got moonlight markers last year & they're rubbish cos they only get direct sun for a couple hours, then produce the most feeble light you've ever seen.

A friend who is a gardener by trade, suggested to me last year that B&Q make were the best solar lights around at the time.
Was looking round in B&Q in September, and saw two battered boxes left on the shelf. They were meant to be £19.99 each box of 4 lights. But one box was falling appart, and the other box had a spike missing, even tho the light was still there.

I asked an elderly sales assistant if there was any chance of a reduction, as I wanted one box as a gift (little white lie) and it looked so squashed I couldn't use it, and would have to just stick lights in their garden instead. Eventually he came back,about 15 mins later, and said the manager would sell both boxes for £25.00 (8 lights)

When I got home hubby made a stake for missing one from some plastic. I can honestly say these give fantastic light, if there were grouped fairly close, I'm sure you could read by the light they give off. On the sunny days we've had over Easter, they were still light at 5am, when hubby went to work. Yesterday it poured with rain all day, but they still shone brightly last night . Just hope they keep it up!!!

I saw solar lights today in Tesco, £9.97 for a pack of two. I'm afraid I don't know how good they are........I just noticed them and remembered this thread.

Bought 2 from Tesco last night for just under £10. (black plastic)


Also had a look in Argos - they were doing 2 for £12.99 and the picture looked really good-stainless steel - but they were out of stock.


This morning looked on eBay and bought 6 for £30 (when p+p added)-these are stainless steel too-feedback was excellent so I think I am sorted.
