Hi all,
Am a little confused by a natwest default that I have settled - I was given the D in 2008 paid it off in the august of 2011 - have checked my credit file and it shows that it is going to shown until 2017 ? - Surely this cant be right can it ?
I was under the impression that defaults only stayed on the credit file for 6 years ?
Any help please
Cheers

If it was defaulted in 2007, then it will be removed in 2011. End of.
Equifax I think puts the confusing message on the files that defaults will remain for 6 years from the account being closed/ended. A bad phrase to use, as on a defaulted account they consider that to be when the default was issued. As technically, in many respects, that was when your normal agreement with the creditor ended.
Anyway, despite the CRAs best efforts to confuse people, it is 6 years from the default.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
