Hi
Was just wondering if somebody could give me some advice on what to do about my misfortune with RBS.
I have a joint mortage with them not in a fixed term and at a very good rate. My partner and i have split up and i was wanting to remove his name from the mortgage (with his consent obviously!).
I rang RBS to ask what i would need to do and how i would go about this in March. They said that they would send me some literature and an transfer application.
However i did not receive anything so again in April i rang back with more question and to be told that again they would send me a transfer application form.
Upon looking at this and discussing with my ex partner ie agreeing monies to be given, i sent off the details requested.
In the cover letter from RBS it stated that this application would take several weeks.
After over a month of waiting i still had heard nothing, so i rang to ask how my application was proceeding only to be told that they had not received my application (conviently) and that the time scale for my application was now closed and if i wished to remove a name from the mortgage i would need to apply for a brand new mortgage.
I was transferd to their complaints department only to be told that they could not do anything and that i would have to apply for a new mortgage.
This would now involve all the costs of a new mortgage plus a higher rate. At no point did anybody advice me that by making a general inquiry about removing a name was i opening a procedure and that i was on a time scale..... also how the hell was i supposed to know that they had lost my details.
I am currently writing to RBS complaints dept but have been told from their mortgage department that this wont change anything.
Was just wondering if anybody had anybody had an advice on where my rights stand for this i persoanlly think that its very convenient that they havent received my details......
Thanks in advance

What you are looking at is known as a "transfer of Equity" proided you meet their criteria to take it over in your sole name, you should be able to retain your existing scheme.
Rather than messing over by post, I would suggest getting yourself an appointment to do this in branch, then you have a single point of contact, and someone who you can chase for updates.I am a mortgage adviser. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Not sure what they are going on about there, you should be able to apply anytime, as I said I would try and deal face to dace with someone, rather than relying on post.I am a mortgage adviser. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.
