Advice on council tax rebanding

I hope I'm posting this in the right place.

I'm looking for some advice on getting my council tax rebanded as I think I should be a band lower.
Now I've done the various checks this website advises and these are the results:
The neighbour check - all similar properties in my street are in the same band as myself.
We bought our house in 2000 for £38,000.
The house calculator that gives you your house value in 1991 gave a value of £29,145 council tax band A (we are currently in B).

Has any one claimed under similar circumstances and if so what was the outcome?

Any help and advice appreciated thanks

Wow that's a great result John. Were your circumstances similar to mine or did you discover your neighbours were in a lower band?

I did it through moneysavingdirect and wish I hadn't as they do it on a 50/50 deal.
Didn't realise till later that you could do it for free.
They tell you if you lose your appeal for lower banding it can cost you a fortune, that's why they take 50/50 to cover for the ones they lose. That's what made me go with them. Not true, it costs nothing.
I haven't received the money yet but they aren't getting it.
My neighbour got hers 2 weeks ago and as so far refused to pay them.
Oh it's not 50/50 either it's 60/40 as you pay their VAT.
You get say a £2k pay out, you pay them £1000 + the dreaded so £1200, you get £800.

You or your neighbour wont have any choice in the long run, they will pursue for a debt which you agreed to pay,
In fairness, if you did it yourself you may not have been successful.

They will eventually put you to debt collectors, then a CCJ, plus court costs then bailiffs and your credit will be trashed for the next 6 years.
Not fair of you really, but expect the consequences.

  • Please do not pay these carpet baggers, use your counciler and the valuation site. Good info here

Stop feeding these fleeces, they take YOUR MONEY.

Extremely bad advice for the reasons mentioned in my earlier post.

The op has a contract with these people, the op has agreed to pay them this money in a LEGALLY enforceable contract.

    Please dont post total rubbish.

I had a contract based on what they told me which turns out not to be totally true.
They promise a free valuation of your property...not got one.
Tell you that if your appeal fails it could cost you a substantial amount in legal fees...the main reason why I went with them...not true.

  • Try this the
Here are some dos and donts to help you avoid falling victim to these scammers.
    DO
    • Remember that you can have your band checked free of charge by contacting your local Valuation Office [insert link]
    • Ring a cold-callers office to confirm that they are who they say they are
    • Inform the police if you believe that anyone is impersonating staff from your local council or the VOA
    • Dial 999 if a cold caller refuses to leave your home
    • Contact your local Trading Standards Service if you feel you have been the victim of a council tax scam
    DONT
    • Dont give your bank details to anyone that contacts you by phone or who calls in person.
    • Dont let anyone into your home without seeing appropriate identification
    • Dont feel under pressure from a cold-caller to pay an immediate up-front fee. Take the time you need to think about it. Whats the rush?
    • Dont accept cold callers claims about your band without seeing evidence or proof of what they are claiming. There is nothing wrong with being sceptical.
    • Dont speak to anyone that is reluctant to give you their company address or contact details
If you feel that the band on your home is wrong, then all you have to do is contact your local office and explain why you think it is incorrect. We will also ask you to confirm that the details we hold about your home are correct. We will listen to your views and if we agree that the band is wrong, we will change it. Bands can occasionally go up as well as down.

The worst bit is I'm claiming a tax back then paying VAT on it.
Split is 55/45 by the way not 60/40.
