I just wondered if any of you are still taking zopliclone' I've been taking it since October but trying to just have it a few nights a week otherwise I can't sleep and have gone 3 nights with no sleep I can't understand why it all started.
. I dread going to bed every night now I get do nervous knowing that if I don't take a zopliclone I don't sleep although I font just take one as I go to bed I will after just being laid there at least 2hrs
Before I started on these tablets I had tried everything, herbal , calomile tea 'cutting coffee out etc and nothing worked. I have started to excercise so lets see if this will help .0 -
Thanks mercedes for bumping this old thread up - I came on here to start a new thread asking for advice on good 'free' ways to help me sleep better and saw this straight away so thank you
I have actually tried most things suggested in this thread, but I have not been on zopliclone or any other medication. I have severe Endometriosis so I am already on lots of treatment for that and my Doc is reluctant to put me on anything else. So I am left to try and battle my sleep problem on my own.
Wondered if anyone else had any up to date ideas on help with sleep? I downloaded this program to my laptop called f.lux which gradually dims the light on your laptop as the night goes on. It hasn't helped so far but I think you need to use it in conjuction with other methods for it to work. A colleague at work also suggested wearing amber coloured glasses in the evening to block out white light which has been scientifically proven (apparently) to help sleep but these are quite expensive
I am at my wits end. It's 1am at the moment and I am quite sure I will be awake for many more hours to come. And I have to be up at 8am for workOfficial DFW Nerd 1390 MFW 0/1800

It's worth remembering a side effect of zopiclone is insomnia, this has been proven in tests. You take it and immediatly feel tired but as the pill taking goes on and on, you will find your less able to sleep and need to take more and more. If you stop taking it, your already dependant and it will take some time to withdraw. The most obvious withdrawal symptom is insomnia as well, so your trapped either way.
Don't just stop taking your medication (for anyone who is still taking it) withdraw slowly and at a pace you can manage and always let your doctor know.
I've never found any natural medication works (eg valerian/hops/various teas...etc) and am unable to be referred for any help from a sleep clinic because my GP tells me "they don't do psychological issues". I've had sleeping problems as far back as I can remember (as in childhood) and get very anxious about anything which is what keeps me awake or wakes me up about an hour or so after I've initially fallen asleep. I've yet to find anything that helps long term with this.
I would say though, that I would never go back onto zopiclone for sleeping. That stuff felt fantastic when taking it late at night because it really helped with my anxiety, enough that I was able to fall alseep within 30 minutes! (Normally it's an hour plus) but the next day you'd get this horrible hang-over sort of fatigue, grogginess and tiredness, not being able to concerntrate yet not actually wanting to sleep. It's a really horrible situation to be stuck in but once your through the initial two weeks (worst is from day 3 to day 10) the hardest part of withdrawal is over.
Sorry I don't have any answers for you, if it's any consolation, many people struggle with it and for a variety of reasons so if one person says it's impossible to resolve it may not mean your insomnia is impossible to change, you may have insomnia for a totally different-and cureable reason.0 -

Thanks will give your ideas a try I will try anything. I wasn't keen on going on sleeping tablets and did all I could to avoid them but because I wasn't sleeping all night long for at least 3 nights at I time I felt I had to , I wish I hadn't as I'm worrying now about getting off them and what harm they are doing me. I'm going back to the docter today to see if I can be reffered to someone to help me.0 -

Thanks for advice ,I wish I could come off them but I know I wouldn't sleep I'm not the type to just take them I will lay awake for several hours first and try not to take them everything I can cope now with odd sleepless night.
I noticed in your other post that you have anxiety because also do but I'm not on any medication for this ,do you take anything , I dint know if to ask the docter if there's is anything I can have that's not addictive then if I am more relaxed I might get off to sleep and not need sleep tabs. I also have epilepsy and that's bad enough to cope with.Any way I am seeing the softer later so will update you .0 -
I use this technique called EFT on lots of things and this one helps get rid of the stresses of the day and help you sleep, very easy tap along technique. It gets rid of negative associations to help break negative thinking.
Paul Mckenna plus others do hypno type cd's to help insomnia on Amazon. http://www.amazon.co.uk/I-Can-Make-You-Sleep/dp/0593055381
I also try a breathing technique were you breath in for 6, hold for 6 then release for 8 and do this until you feel relaxed...which is pretty quick once doing it.HTH.
