Why can't I be this disciplined all month?

Had too much month for my money this month due to unexpected bill and have found myself getting by with loose change all this week. I managed to do a weekly shop at Aldi for £22 due to meal planning and have walked 4 miles each way to work instead of using petrol.

Goes to show I CAN do it! If only I was a disciplined when I first get paid!:T
Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time

YES you can do it. And I too have come to the realisation that I need to be incredibly tight fisted at the beginning of the month - then I'm not doing catch up at the end (why did that take so long to click). Wow to your 8 mile walk!

    Well done you!!

I seem to always have been in the habit of budgeting but then not really sticking to it because I used my debit card for everything, then by last week of the month I seriously struggled! I stick to cash only now :)

Good for you for walking to work! I moved in with my partner and changed jobs at the start of this year. 2 weeks later I sold my car :) Work is about 1+1/2 miles away, but I walk - rain, hail or shine! Fresh air is great and the walk gives me a wee exercise boost first thing in the morning! Not having a car has saved me heaps. But even if you still hang on to yours, the saving in petrol by walking will make a difference :)

Meal planning is perfect idea and packed lunches saves a fortune! When doing your shop in Aldi or wherever, always check out the reduced sections in fruit/veg, bread and chilled.

I get paid on Friday and am going to get cash out and not go on a whirlwind debit card spree! I have let some people down today by not going on a planned day out but I would have not done it for under £50. It's embarrassing to say you can't afford it, but at least my debt going down :-)

Exactly! And well done to you! :j

Out of interest, well just a thought, how many people on the planned day out will be paying with their CC?

They may not have had their LBM yet ;)

Good for you! Yes it's disappointing when you can't go out or let people down, but you can't live above your means. You may enjoy yourself for a few hours but then stress about it for a month coz of the amount you spent!
