Hiya

I want to send some meat to a friend in the post. Is this legal? What's the best way? Just to add the meat is raw.

Thanks in advance

Bye

It's not illegal, but most places won't carry it, and usually specify this in the T&C's. It would be difficult to find a courier that would accept it I think, and would probably cost you a small fortune if you did :(.

Most couriers never have a clue what is in the parcels they deliver, and all those online butchers don't seem to have any problems finding couriers to deliver it.

If I were the op I would look up some of those online butchers and see how they pack the meat, and which couriers they use. I would also make sure it goes guaranteed next day delivery, you wouldn't want it hanging round a depot for two or three days.

You would probably need to use refrigerated transport and a bit like venison ............................... it could be "dear"!!

If you can vacuum pack the meat chill it and put it in an insulated box with ice packs then they won't even know what is in it and it will easily survive the night.

If you can make sure it stays chilled and sealed, and it is going within the UK, no problem. If you are sending it overseas, you would need to check the import rules of the country concerned.

When vets post mortem animals, and need to send parts away to labs, it just goes in normal first class post. Sometimes they have to pack things in icepacks, but only sometimes. Normally just goes in padded envelope.

Mind you, that doesnt need to be in an ebidle state at the other end!

OP, I've ordered from an online butcher.

This shows how it was packaged.

There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.
