Short term subletting spare room?

Not sure whether to post this here or in the house buying/selling/renting area tbh, but I'll try here first.
Has anyone got any experience of renting out their spare room short term (probably about 1-3 months?)
I've suddenly been left in a situation where I've got to pay rent for a 2-bedroom London flat on my own, but I'd really like to buy soon and have the 10% deposit saved up so I don't want to commit to the usual 6 months+. Moving somewhere smaller for a few months would almost certainly cost more than I'd save, but paying all the rent on my own will leave me with very little left after essentials.
The landlord doesn't mind if I rent out a room as long as the rent gets paid.
Spareroom doesn't seem to deal with shorter tenancies much. I'll give Gumtree a try, but is there anywhere else I should look?
Can't do B&B type arrangements with cooking for other people btw.

With spareroom you can state in your advert what you want and I regularly rent out rooms for short term lets (I think there is a box you tick when you make up your ad).
I would think, especially in London, people would be desperate for a short term room while they find more permanent accommodation.0 -
Just make it absolutely clear to the lodger IN WRITING and get them to sign it, that this is a short term thing, and set the date of leaving immediately they move in.0

I advertised through spareroom and ended up with a lodger for 3 months (foreign student visiting for a semester) so I wouldn't rule it out0

By the way, it isn't subletting, its getting in a lodger, simples.
Sub letting is when you rent out the whole accommodation and you dont live there yourself.
Good luckmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
