Am I allowed a saving account?

I am in the process of opening a basic bank account, will the bank (HSBC) let me open a savings account as well?

I want to have somewhere to save my overtime money to pay full and finals if/when they are offered.

I don't want to ask in the bank and for them to say no.:o

I've got a basic account and a savings ISA with Natwest :) so the answer is probably yes.

If you get one - you will almost certainly get the other - neither offer a credit facility which is the point.

I have a savings account where birthday/Xmas goes to build up F&F pots.
  • Anywhere should give you a savings account as they usually aren't credit checked, only identity checked. Hope you get one soon.

I opened a basic account (Barclays) and then opened a basic savings account through internet banking with them. No paperwork to fill in and only needed to transfer £1 to open it. May be worth looking to see if you can do it this way too with HSBC once your basic account is set up

We had a Co-op basic account and savings account as well as a Nationwide savings account. Having the savings account with the basic account was handy as online transfers were immediate.
