OK - so a random question but it's got me thinking.
He's all about eating what he grows and rears himself but what about the things he doesn't and can't. He isn't a lover of the supermarkets (good on him IMO) as those who have watched his programmes know...he made this clear when he did his bit against eating barn chickens and so on....
So.....eg loo roll, dw tablets, toothpaste, coffee, tea, golden syrup, dried pasta, spices - the list goes on.
Has anyone met him or been to his conventions? Where do people who like to be self sufficient as possible buy the things that they can't be ss in from when trying to avoid shopping at supermarkets?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts. PS posted on OS as he is a frugal man

I don't suppose he has to count the pennies like the rest of us though, so if he has to pay top whack at a small shop for his necessaries it probably won't impact on his income too much.0 -
That's true although he does seem to be penny concious in his programmes. What goes on behind the scenes may be different of course.
I'd love to have his opinion on how he'd live his life on my budget, working life and family etc etc.Debt - CCV £3792

I actually live in a town where he has his canteen (as it's called) and about a couple of miles from River Cottage farm. I've never seen him though, but if I do will ask!0

Or follow him round and we can "see" for ourselves
lol

I get the feeling that he's the kind of chap who would probably support his local retailers, regardless of cost. That's the sort of symbiosis that usually goes on when you run a business in a small place and value your neighbours' good-will.
Mind you, he could very well get it all at trade through his businesses0 -
I met him (well, said "Hello"
) a few years ago in the 1st class carriage of a train between Exeter & Waterloo. He got on at his local station.
I think he was more about quality than cost back then so following a totally MSE lifestyle may not be top of his agenda.0 -
Yes that's a possibility....maybe before his business took off, in the early days of River Cottage then...
I definitely agree he seems one for local support......Debt - CCV £3792
