Improving credit file with catalogues

Im just looking for some advice as I have a bad credit rating. In 2008 somebody on this forum said, if you buy something from any of the JD Williams catalogs and pay it off in full when the statement comes in they will keep on putting 0's on your credit rating indefinitely without having to make another purchase. Is this correct? If so I think it will be a very good easy way to improve my rating.
Thanks in advance to all you helpful people.

Have you thought about the alternative, applyin to Vanquis for a credit card? Maybe a bit easier to get than a catalogue.

Yes I am currently applying for a credit card for people with poor credit rating (Aqua card), but I thought if I could get a second lot of green markers on my credit file for virtually no work then its got to be good thats why I would like to know if the info in my OP is correct.0 -
Yeah, a catalogue is the same as a CC. So you'll get 2 lots of green ticks

All the best.

Yes I understand that, but in 2008 somebody said if you have a catalogue account with any of JD Williams catalogues then you only need to make one initial purchase and pay that off in full on first statement then they will keep on giving you monthly green ticks indefinitely even if you don't make any more purchases. I was wondering if this is correct and still the case?0 -
I'm not 100% sure. Was it on this site? IF so, maybe you could do a thread search at the top right hand side.

They'll probably give you green ticks for about a year after using the account. Similar to a credit card that you don't use.
Not quite sure what your point is.
Anyone checking your credit file will see the catalogue credit isn't being used, so I would have thought that a credit card that you use and pay off in full each month would be better for your credit rating.
Though if you want what it is the catalogue is selling and it is a good price then there's no harm in doing it. Obviously it will count as a credit search to set the account up, but unless you're planning on applying for anything important in the near future that shouldn't matter.0
