Need mortgage life insurance advice

Ive just found out via MSE that its not compulsory to have mortgage life insurance. However when I took out my mortgage with Halifax it was compulsory to have mortgage life insurance. I don’t know exactly when this change happened and of course I didnt received notification from Halifax of this change. Im single with no dependants and so I don’t need/want mortgage life insurance and would have cancelled as soon as Id found out. Was Halifax required to tell me of the change and can I claim back the premiums I paid since the change?

It has never been compulsory, I would suspect Halifax probably just gave you the "hard sell" and implied it was!

I doubt you have any paperwork to even suggest it was complusory? so unfortunately it will just be your word against theirs, if you are confident, then it could be worth complaining, but I doubt if you will get anywhere.

Thanks, but is that not the same as with PPI, hard sell, misleading info and now people can claim back

That'll be the dreaded Halifax combined mortgage and everything else declaration - just sign there, there and there Mr Customer.

We have had a constant flow of these through the door over the last few years !

All have cancelled / rearranged their insurance but have not got a penny back - my commenst on halifax are unprintable !

With reference to SaRaH's comment there is a considerable difference between proving PPI was needed or paid and proving the same for life insurance

..... and yes, Halifax did often wrap MPI iunto the same form/package.

as with PPI its about being told lies, if the mortgage applicant tells lies and they are found out well we know what the lender will do but when the lender tells lies.........

Agree with you, but do you have any evidence they told lies - paperwork etc, or is it just your word against theirs?

If you have any evidence then go for the jugular -we will all support you!
