Council tax exemption

Hi all, just a query I have about council tax exemption. Basically as I havent lived at the property for a year I was given 6 months exemption and then 6 months at 50% but I'm pretty sure they told me I could claim 6 months exemption every year. Anyways I rang them yesterday to ask for another 6 months exemption and they said I'm only allowed to use it once, which is fine but I when I first bought the property in 2003 I used a 6 motnh exmeption then !
My question is if I moved back for a month, paid full council tax and then moved away again would my council tax exemption start again ?
Thanks in advance, CM

If you move back in for six weeks then move out and you can get an exemption but if they already have your main address you wont be able to do this.0

andym765 is correct, the Class C exemption period must be interspaced with 6weeks occupation or greater before it can be claimed again.
You would need to move in to the property as your main property, the property you left would then be your 2nd home and in a lot of areas its charged at 100% , ie no discount.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
Thanks all, I'm currently abroad so plan next time I visit to say I'm staying there for 6 weeks and then claim my exemption after that.0
