I think it depends on if you can afford it or not.

We are 2.5 (me and hubby plus baby on the way) for 18 months we lived on £80 for a months food but now we live on £120 for a month, If I was a family of 4 Id like to live off £60 a week MAX personally and we cook from scratch 90% of the time.

But if you don't need to cut back then i don't think it is specifically OTT

I do think with meat that spending a little bit more can sometimes be better. For instance a value pepper is an odd shape and maybe an unusual colour, but the value mince is full of fat.

I don't think that is such a bad amount. If you are happy with how you are eating and can afford it, fine. If you need to cut corners somewhere, then there will be room to reduce it a little bit should you wish to.

I've taken the advice of the posters on here and made a weekly meal plan. I did the shop for it last night and it came to £110.

Is this extortionate for a family of 4 plus dog?

    Thanks all :D
Hi epskie - It all depends on whether or not you can afford to spend £110 per week.
If you can and you're happy with that amount, then that's ok, but if you need to save the pennies then there are a lot of ways to cut down on your spending. Over on the Grocery Challenge, we're a very friendly bunch if you want to join us :) Everyone decides what their target is, and no-one judges anyone!!! and we have a lot of laughs. I've picked up lots of tips since I started reading first, then I did my first GC last month.

I think thats a pretty standard, non mse figure and if you are happy with it and can afford it then i'd say go for it.

We're a family of 5 and i spend £200 a month, can do it for half that if we didn't have so much fruit and milk but thats something i won't cut out. We also do alot of cooking from scratch and buy alot of value items, reduced items (mainly bread) and bulk buy meat- we have meat at nearly every meal.
