It's supposed to work on everything across the store, even sale items. I've found that it only works if you have at least one non-sale item in your basket but it does then take the discount off your whole basket, including sale stuff. (Cheapest non-sale items I've found are £1 tissues and birthday cards if that helps anyone!)

Once you have applied the discount code in the checkout process, you can come back to the basket and remove any full price or unwanted items.

The discount on the remaining items would still remain applied.
