Hi, first time posting on here and I am in real need of help. I have for a number of years now let debts lie and have ignored numerous demands however I know I cannot continue like this and need to do something about it. My problem is I don't know exactly who to or how much I owe. I know the credit card debt has been passed to numerous companies but I have not heard from them in such a long time. I have a tax bill of around £7k, I owe the bank approx £300, have a housing benefit overpayment of £1600, an income support overpayment of £270....there could possibly be others! How do I go about finding out exactly what I owe and what could be the best solution for me?
I am a single mother, have 2 kids and was left with all the debt in my name from my failed marriage. I only work part time and have just enough to get by...I am juggling so much right now with work and childcare arrangements and have all these demands and dread hanging over me I am constantly getting so down about it.
:(:(:(:(:(
Help and advice greatly appreciated

Hi there, well done for coming here and trying to get a handle on your debts

I'd start by getting a credit report from the three main companies - Experian, Equifax and Callcredit. You should be able to request one for £2, or you can sign up to a monthly free trial (but don't forget to cancel it!)
If you have heard nothing in over 6 years, did not have a CCJ registered for a debt (and have not acknowledged this debt within this time) then your debt may be statute barred. This means that it is unenforceable in court.Savings target: £25000/£25000

Well done for posting on here. I posted a couple of days ago and already feel so much better and in control. It might be worth sitting down with someone at your local Citizens advice bureau and getting some proper advice . Good luck

Hi Nicola well done for making your first post, you will get loads of support on here. Are you also looking for ways to cut back on your spending? If so, fill out an soa (statement of affairs) and ppl will be able to offer areas where you can save money to put towards debt x0
