halifax advice

i got a fix rate offer from halifax last month but couldnt go ahead with the offer until i sorted some things out - anyhow it now turns out my offer has expired and the rate has increased - the problem is that halifax didnt tell me i could hold the rate for up to 2 months - can i now get the first offer because they didnt tell me about being able to hold the rate?

You can complain by all means, but I very much doubt they will do anything about it..

    Good luck

  • Are you sure you mean 'an offer' (or perhaps a DIP or 'promise') ?

    Purchase? Remortgage? Product transfer?

The offer will have a valid until date on - in the case of Halifax this comes after Section 14 (Where you can get more information) in a highlighted box in which the first section is 'Offer Expiry Date'

    remortgage
Until you actually apply, nothing you do actually reserves you a rate. An agreement in principle has no product linked to it, for example.

If you apply for a mortgage or remortgage, once the offer is issued, as SPM said, it has a drawdown deadline in the future and the rate is guaranteed until at least then.

The rules for product transfers are slightly different. These are for Halifax existing borrowers changing to a new rate. These can be reserved upto three months ahead but IIRC you do have to submit a "confirmation of intent" form to them to get that product reserved.

You need to be specific about where you were upto in the remortgage process. Who is your current lender?

  • Retract my comment - as totally different circumstance !!

I'll see if I can hunt out a product transfer offer
