Tax code tanking...

So as I've posted before noticed my tax code was wrong and eventually got through to HMRC to let them know. No problem the guy says we've adjusted it and will start taking normal tax monthly.

How will the shortfall be addressed? says I. What we do is we sort it out at the end of this tax year or next.

Seems like a strange system but they are the experts right? Well apparently not, they've taken the whole amount of tax from one months pay. Means I've got to doa bit of jiggling. It is somewhat irritating that I specifically asked them about this and was told this would not happen.

Have others had the same thing?

I know people are going to say you shouldn't have spent the money, and I did only spend a bit of it, but the point is it was on the strength of what I was told by HMRC. What's the point in contacting them if you could just make something up yourself and have about as much chance of being right?

So anyway the upshot is somebody at HMRC pressed the wrong buttong (or didn't press a button when they were supposed to) and this means the tax was taken all in one go rather than spread out. There is nothing they can do about it. Advised me to speak to my employer who can't do anything as they just go on the information sent to them by HMRC.

Pointless ringing them, first guy doesn't do his job right and the lady today wasn't even listening to me. Asked for my name, gave it then asked again seconds later. Same with post code. Don't know if she was training or just didn't care.

I'm just glad my tax affairs aren't more complicated.
