Advice on "notice of correction"

A little background:-

In 2008 an unavoidable CCJ was registered against me for an overpayment from my ex-employer. It was unavoidable because since I left the job, I had no reason to update my ex-employer with my new address every time I moved. In span of 12 month between 2007 and 2008, I moved 6-7 times (all address registered on my credit file) to new place or new town. So you can understand, I had no idea ex-employer was "chasing" me for money.

The debt was finally paid off, once it finally came to my attention - but it was too late then.

In past 4-5 years, even when I was moving, I paid my all bills on time. No late payment or bank penalty of any sort what-so-ever - except this CCJ, which could be easily avoided only IF I knew about it. *sigh*

Anyway,I am stuck with a CCJ on my Equifax (not with other two agencies) and now I am considering leaving a "notice of correction" on my Equifax file, so I could have my say on this issue (supported by my 6-7 addresses for that time span). Is it worth doing?

There's certainly no harm in it. I'm currently going through a similar issue with Virgin Media and while I hope to get the entry removed on my file (and you could always contact Equifax to request this), I don't think you will be able to for a CCJ. Companies might not take any notice of a notice of correction - but they can't take notice if you don't submit one.

Write to your exemployer explaining the situation and reminding them that the money was repaid when you were made aware.

Ask them if in the circumstances they would object to the judgement being removed. Get their (hopefully positive) reply in writing

Then contact the court that issued it and ask if it can be looked at again in the light of the new information

Surely, even if the CCJ is removed from Equifax it will still show up on the trustonline database which anyone can search, till 2014

Yes, but if its gone by the court, its gone. You might have to do abit of legwork to clear the trail of problems left behind though
  • Thanks everyone.

    Update:

I have written to my ex-employer, explaining the circumstances and all that. Lets see what they say. *fingers crossed*
