I've been in my job since last June- an IT role and my first proper job. I'm the youngest there but I really enjoy my job. I feel I'm doing really well and last October I went for a promotion. There was 12 jobs and 50 ppl went for it and I got the job there was an additional £2k on my pay. The job I got was to be part of a team and have a team leader. I nvr went for the team leader job as I thought I hadn't been in my role long enough an wouldn't get it. Then one of the team leaders left and my manager put me forward to be the team leader. I was surprised but happy it meant another £1500 on my pay. I then was told they would need to sort my contract out and my pay. This was in february and I've been doing the job since with no pay increase. So I'm on the same as everyone in my team but the other team leaders get more. Ive been chasing this up since feb but my manager just tells me he's trying to sort it out. Today I emailed him again and he told me that there's no money left to give out but I'll get it at the next pay review which is next April. What would u do in this situation? I feel like they are not treating me fairly

Where has the money that was accrued for the team leader that left gone then?
Only you know your company - will it be worth it in the long run or are you happier doing the role you are being paid to do?If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
2K payrise to be a team lead? You're working for the wrong company...0

I was recently `promoted' to a much bigger department at my place of work. I was told there was no extra pay though. I stay on the positive side of it and look at it as a step up to something higher which will involve higher pay.
Sounds silly, but its not all about the money sometimes. (I know I know that wont pay the bills etc..)0 -

I know it's not a lot of money to most people but it helps pay the bills and it's not entirely about the money- its more the fact that they are treating me different from the others when I can hoenstly say I put in 110%.
Anyway I emailed him back and said I don't want the role without the money as its more pressure and some of my people in my team are eating more than me because they got a payrose (I didn't as I hadn't been there a year yet). Got an email straight back saying he wants me to stay in my role and he has escalated it to his manager and he's going to sort it out. Funny how the suddenly have the money when I refuse!0 -
ok - to look at this way... You were promoted because they trust you to be able to do the job better than others. That's good.
BUT - It's not uncommon (and I do work in IT myself also) to be promoted without a rise. Are there specific grades/pay structures at your work? If so, it's very cheeky. Can you just tell them you will work the work in your contract and nothing else?0 -
Going through exactly the same thing, but for not as long as you. I hate it - I'm currently about 7K p.a. underpaid for what I'm doing and I feel like I'm the worlds biggest mug for letting them do this to me. If it goes on for too long I'm going to have to just refuse to do it until I get a new contract - in my head I'm giving it 6 months from when my colleague left and I ended up doing the job.
Good luck in getting it sorted, you deserve the extra money!Trying to remain free of unsecured debt and build up some savings.
Have done CeFA and CeMAP exams but no longer regulated.0
