making a gluten free birthday cake-HELP

I would like to make a gluten free cake for a lady at work for her birthday. I have some recipes and feel reasonably confident about cooking it, but, do I need to 'de-contaminate' my utensils of gluten before using them ? How to do this? dishwasher?
Should I buy new mixing bowl and tins etc?

You don't need to buy a new bowl. Washing them up thoroughly would remove the gluten - dish washer if you have one would be ideal, if not just wash very well.
I don't have any experience with gluten persay - but my son has egg allergies and as long as I wash utensils well he doesn't react. hth

dishwasher should do fine. If you need any help with recipes just let me know. Phil Vickery has some good ones if that helps.

I second Phil Vickery recipes. I've used his recipes for cakes and they are much better than when I use shop bought gluten free flour.

I normally just make a sponge to my normal recipe, but use doves gluten free flour & it comes out fine.

One thing to watch would be your butter/marg hasn't been contaminated by bread crumbs.

We keep a spare one for food to be consumed by my mum, who's a celiac.
    Kate short for Bob.

You can just replace the SR flour in normal recipes with gluten free SR, but often gluten free cakes tend to run a bit dry so add a splash of milk to soften up the mix (unless she has a dairy allergy too!)

This is what Ive done on all sorts of GF cakes and it really seems to help
We got rid of the kids. The cat was allergic. ;)
