Pets

I've put down the cost of keeping my pets on my forms, I've yet to have my OR call so I have had no feedback wrt my forms. But I've just read on another thread that another poster said they've been told dog food isn't allowed. So what is the general allowance for pets? Or not? I'm worried as my autistic dd will be very distressed for months or longer if we are forced to rehome them.

Hi, I was allowed the actual cost of my pet insurance and I calculated the pet food into our housekeeping.

Food needs to come from housekeeping but insurance/vet fees can be put down as long as it is not extortionate, £20/30 pm.

can be considered "reasonable day-to-day living expenses".

What kind of expenditure is classed as being ‘reasonable day-to-day living expenses’?
Normal monthly expenses, would include rent or mortgage payments (which are reasonable for the area you live in and the size of your family), food, heating and lighting, etc. Below are some examples of things that can also be treated as reasonable expenses:
    • TV licence, TV and video hire
    • Household insurance
    • Car tax and insurance (if the trustee decides your car is 'exempt property' and allows you to keep it)
    • AA/RAC or similar membership (if you still have your car)
    • Membership of a professional body, needed for your job (unless your employer pays for this)
    • Prescriptions/dental treatment/opticians
    • Payment under a maintenance order or Child Support Agency assessment
    • Mobile phone (a reasonable monthly cost)
    • Dry cleaning
Other expenditure items that could be considered:
    • Clothing
    • Holidays
    • Hairdressers
    • Extra curricular activities for children
    • After school clubs
    • Pets
    • Rent arrears
This is not meant to be a complete list, and other expenses could be considered.

Edit to add: and with an autistic dd it would be a very reasonable expense (to those who know anything about having an autistic dd  )

Sorry pippa, totaly didnt see that could be read in a different way lol. Teach me for posting too quickly, I just meant dont worry what other people think they can claim, every situation is different so any expense that you normally have put down on the forms you can negotiate with the or later as to wether it is reasonable later
