I've still got all the hundreds of tracks I downloaded from emusic and they seem to all work without problem even though I haven't been a subscriber for well over a year.0

Nope, I had Napster for years so I definitly know the difference, it was E-Music, I still have the app on my computer!0 -

Emusic only sell standard mp3 music tracks that don't have any DRM (I don't know about the Audio books). I've been subscribing for several years - so long that I can't not afford to keep subscribing because I'm getting £21 of downloads per month and only paying £10.99 for it. (This is due to them giving incentives to keep older customers).
It has a slightly strange model because in the UK you pay per track (it's different in the US) so it means that some things are really expensive and I've bought them from Amazon (or used the MSE Tunechecker to find the cheapest).
It also doesn't have many of the mainstream labels on it, so if you want chart music then try somewhere else (Tunetribe seems to have weekly sales where you can download that sort of thing cheaply).
My interests are in prog rock, folk, some classical, new age, bits of brass band music and other strange stuff so it is fine for me.
For example the last thing I bought was the new Stolen Earth "A Far Cry from Home" - 9 tracks so £3.78 (and about £2 to me in real money) which is £6.21 on Amazon.
Customer support has been fine when I've needed it. I've only once lost any downloads because I forgot when the 30 day period rolled over and that prompted me to keep a check on it. I have several hundred "saved for later" albums so I just use up the downloads on tracks from those. It is slightly frustrating when there are months when there is a lot I want to download, and it's not possible to get everything so those wanting instant satisfaction may not be happy!0 -
I will choose to pay for my music download.Chargable links are always conviniently accessible, which can save you a lot of time. And we live in a socity where money counts. All shall show least respect for other's efforts by paying.0

to answer the original question, I don't think there is anything to worry about regarding the trustworthy-ness of the site. I has been around for a long time. I used it on a couple of free trials, the music selection wasn't really what I was looking for. You should be able to find a free trial link using google - give it a go at no risk?0

Aside from the aforementioned the only reputable sources I can think of are Sainsbury's and Apple.0 -
I bought a Samsung device which came with a 50 free downloads offer.
I don't download music, but there are a couple of things that I have been unable to get hold of on CD so I signed up.
I had no intention of keeping up a membership since I don't want music in this format as a rule. In addition, if you don't use your credit every month, it gets wiped out! What a 'service'!
To get access to my free 50 tracks, I had to put in my bank details.
I thought that I had cancelled after finding that they don't have what I wanted (I should have looked first - I know) However, all I managed to do was to suspend my account for a period and it re-started without further warning / reminder.
Now, when I eventually got round to checking my bank account, I find that I have paid them £175 unwittingly, for a service that I haven't even tried to use beyond day one.
I have asked them to refund this since they can clearly see that I have made no effort to use the site.
I'm not holding my breath though.
