Solicitors Fees....................................

I am in the process of purchasing a garage from the NIHE at a cost of £1500. For convenience I contacted the solicitor who represented me 5yrs ago when I bought my house.
I have received a quote today estimating the Conveyencing Costs at £320+vat. This seems a bit excessive for a garage costing £1500. I know the obvious thing is to shop around, but it is so time consuming. I just wonder if anyone 'in the know' thinks this is about par for the course?

I don't know. The cost of the garage isn't really the issue but the paperwork involved may be very detailed - similar to buying a house I would have thought and, if so, the charges aren't too bad. It's worth picking up the phone and asking a few people.
Can I ask, did you have any trouble buying property off the NIHE? I am eyeballing some land and I wonder how to go about finding out if they'll sell it.Stercus accidit0 -
It wasn't a problem buying the garage because it is one of a block of 2 garages, and I own the other one which came with my house when I bought it. The other one belonged to a neighbour to gave it back to NIHE many moons ago when they built a garage next to their house (the garage is at the end of the cul-de-sac, so they obviously wanted one closer). Only stipulation was that I had to be a tennent first, before I could enquire about purchasing it. Have been renting it since June last year, so its taken a while for NIHE to organise the sale, but in the meantime I got a new door put on it (saving me £260) because they couldn't source the handle which was faulty.
Anyway, to purchase I had to contact NIHE Land & Property (North), Richmond Chambers, The Diamond, Londonderry, BT48 6QP and not the local NIHE office who I pay the rent to.0
