washer Dryer approx £500-£600 reliable make wanted

Starting to go website blind, lol.

I am looking for any colour washer dryer needs to have at least a 4kg drying weight and would like a bosch/siemens something like that.

Does anyone have any reliable websites that might have good offers on?

I was going to price match John for a samsung washer dryer around the £500 mark but reviews weren't that good.

I have a Hoover built in one but they do a free standing too that takes 8/6kgs washing/drying :) Best I could find, had the matching separate items before that lasted well despite being overfilled weekly by 2 teenage boys! They were replaced due to a flood not breakdown!

You could choose a Bosch WVD24520GB Washer Dryer (not sure what a colour version means but this accepts a mixed load)

If washing machines are anything to go by AEG | Bosch, Siemens | Zanussi and Miele. The least reliable brands were Hoover | Hotpoint and Philco.

In terms of how long they last, I have yet to hear any one I know or even any expert (and this includes the Which? guide) rate washer dryers over just a washing maching and a washing line or a washing machine and a tumble dryer separate. They don't last very long apparently because they have too much work to do and are never built with the ability to withstand all they do for very long.

Tesco's description is wrong it states dries a 5kg drying capacity but this model has a 5kg washing capactity and only a 2.5kg drying capacity.

I agree with you on the brands except that I thought Zanussi had gone down in people's estimation as a good brand more recently.

I am looking a Siemens which with a discount I can get down to £750 ish, 7kg wash and 4kg dryer.

I agree but I have no where to keep both separate washer and dryer. I will have a back up separate dryer in the garage for emergencies but with no back door to the garage it makes it difficult for anything except for occasional use.

I think I will try one of the more reliable makes but obviously that makes them more expensive and try to only use the dryer when absolutely necessary.

The reason washer/dryers are not long lasting is that the heat generated by the drying cycle cooks the printed circuit boards inside the washer and they become brittle. The vibration from the spin cycles then cause them to crack and fail.

My advice, buy the cheapest model that will meet your requirements and consider it a throw-away when it develops a major problem. After all, those machines with 30 or 40 programs on them - most people end up only using three of them once the novelty has worn off.

We have a £200 Zanussi washer-only that is over 5 years old and never been seen by a repairman. This is after buying three £500 washer/dryers of assorted makes in about 12 years, all of which failed through faults to the circuit boards.

    Sorry I should have checked

These units must be energy hungry it makes me wonder if they are necessary. Even though I'm not allowed a washing line, radiators and an airing cupboard are more than enough for me. Even when the central heating is not on I just leave them a day to dry.

I've just been reading the Which? today about washing machine's only, and the top one is a Miele, follwoed by a Bosch, 2 hotpoints then an Indesit.

No point giving the models if you want a wahser drier, but thought I would tell you the firms at least as you're leaning that way.

All Zanussi machines have now got noisy water pumps. The machine is lovely and quiet until it has to pump water out. Zanussi refuse to refund the product as the noise level is in the full spec of the machine. As if we know what 79db will sound like. The noise on all zanussi washing machines is horrific due to its pump. Confirmed also by their technicians. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid all Zanussi Washing Machines.
Try the LG ones instead, they are so quiet all the time with a great warranty and energy ratings.
