My wife recently bought a rice cooker and it is great. Basmati rice is very easy.
1 cup of rice + 1 cup of water
turn on, wait for it to finish.
or 2 cups .. 2 cups etc etc
For a change I was going to try one of those packet rices, with added flavouring and vegetables. The instructions on packet worked out at 1 cup rice to 2 cups water.
I decided not to bother, and stuck with plain old Basmati, with a hint of tumeric for colour.
But, can you cook packet rice in the rice cooker and should i use the 1 to 1 ratio mentioned on the instructions, or the 1 2 ratio on the rice packet.
thanks !

Not sure if you can cook packet rice but I'd definitely experiment with your rice cooker.
So, one of our favourites is Caribbean rice and peas: replace the water with coconut milk and add black beans. V yum!
Any veg that you'd cook in water seems to work.0 -
Rice and peas is red kidney beans.0

I have done packets of savoury rice in the rice cooker - I just bung in the rice and add the amount of water stated on the packet. It's always worked.Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0

You can use any "peas" beans you want really. Try Gungo peas, or cow peas - you can get them dried or tinned in the carribean section of big supermarkets. My fave is black eyed peas - yummy. Also add bit of thyme - tastes much better. There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0 -
I have a rice cooker and use Pilau Seasoning (from Schwartz) sprinkled in with the rice. It's a quick, easy way to make pilau rice. You can find the seasoning in the herbs and spices aisle at the supermarket and, last time I bought it, it was buy one get one free

If you are referring to microwavable rice, i.e. Rizzaz-then this rice is already steamed with oil added to assist in the microwave process.
'Cooking' it again in a rice cooker will very likely turn it to mush.
If you mean the flavoured uncooked type of product, then it should be fine.0 -
we have a microwave rice cooker
