Can he financially afford all his outgoings on just 25 hours a week work? Can he financially afford to take the job?

yes he can afford outgoings but it would reduce his ipa payment because he would left with less money ,so would the OR have aproblem with this.

The OR has no interest in what type of work, or indeed, if any at all, is conducted by the BR individual.

What the OR is interested in, is the income, the reasonable living expenses, and any surplus that might arise [as well as realising any assets].

If there is a fall in surplus income, that will be taken into account if an IPA is agreed.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
  • Hi AlastairQ, can you point me to a good website where I can get together my outgoings for when I begin work soon. I need to know what I can add on as a living expense and what I can't. I was told that I cannot include my dogs food so I am aware there are exceptions, and that I am only allowed a small amount for hair etc. Thank you :). Oh I am BR since March this year, and I am now considering what they might expect me to pay out of my wages. I will be working on agency type shifts, which could vary form week to week. Not sure how the OR will calcualte my income, maybe projected income if I say 25 hours a week? I cannot work a long week at the moment due to back and neck problems.

Hi White Roses, you should always start with a list of what you actually need for your expenses, there are a couple of things that the OR has a target amount for but in reality the OR should allow whatever is reasonable for your specific situation be that more or less than what the average amount is

  • Thank you for your reply :). I have to learn to drive in the next few months also, as my back and neck have become progressively worse, which makes the carrying of my work uniform and lunch to walk and get buses and trains too much on me. Especially in the winter months. It takes me any thing from an hour and half to three hours to get to work and the same back, I can't do it any more, the pain can be agonising but I want to keep working. As you said, it is down to each individual case, so I will ask my OR about this and explain my reasons. I don't know how I will save the money for a cheap car but I have to. You're so kind to reply, thank you again :):o
