English/British hamper

Son is visiting friends in the states soon and I would like him to take a gift to the hosts. I suggested an English hamper, with a selection of foods or typically British gifts but am stuck on what to include as he has limited space in his luggage. I searched the hamper thread, but there doesn't seem to be anything. Has anyone got any good ideas on what to include? Thanks in advance.

I would include some Jams by Wilkin and sons - they make the little jars and sell them in Morrisons. Go for classic English fruits like Rhubarb and Ginger; Damson; Victoria Plum and marmalades. English Mustard. Stilton cheese (get a waxed truckle) a cake in a tin like a Dundee cake, scottish shortbread biscuits, chocolate, marmite (yuk!!) anchovy spread, Uncle Joe's Mint Balls. HP sauce, Branston pickle.

Lakeland sell some gourmet foodstuffs, another producer would be Epicure.

Don't know where you are but Chatsworth Farm Shop is lovely for posh stuff

But wherever you are any of those websites will give you some food for thought! *giggles at own pun*

You may want to check what foodstuffs the US will & won't allow to be taken in

Cadbury's chocolate. I don't know if you've ever had American chocolate, it is disgusting!

    Marmite maybe?

Any cheese that's local to your area, or any local speciality depending on it being portable.

    Twinings tea.
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.
  • I would say some English breakfast tea, earl grey tea, preserves, pickles, hp and heinze sauces, proper english sweets, typical biscuits.

My daughter is also a Hershey's fan. They sell it in ASDA (probably because they're a Walmart company;))
