I have been paying it off from day 1 and have just finished actually. Waiting for a refund of 2 months. Never been a millstone round my neck as it has no affect on getting credit etc. I don't think higher education should be free so I am happy to pay and happy to have a fair amount extra each month now it's done.

The new student loans are a bit weird - most will never repay, most will have lower monthly repayments, but most will pay for the maximum time (30yrs? Can't remember) until it's wiped. The highest earners will pay more and may even pay it off. All sounds lovely... but I'm not a student, so don't know what it actually feels like!

The new scheme is horrendous - a total ponzi scheme like housing has been the last decade.

Can I ask if you've been overpaying it like I have? I'm going to make a decision soon as to whether or not I should keep doing this..

No I didn't overpay, just let it run its course. If you see it as a lump around your neck, stop overpaying. Pay the minimum.

I've just cancelled the £150 overpayments. It would have been nice to have cleared it earlier but I guess I WILL be earning more savings interest on it than I would be losing in debt interest.
