ASDA's stupid returns policy

I am sorry to hear that you don't understand that.
OK there's no point in mentioning SOGA and whether the goods are more than 6 months old, because most times when goods are bought from major retailers it doesn't apply.
Most sellers in this contry cover their products with a 12 month warranty and that's what we all should talk about.
SOGA only really applies when a decent guarantee is not offered.0 -

That's quite a misguided perception you have there. The provision of warranties and the rights protected under consumer law are quite different animals. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

I will however, concede that most manufacturers in this country offer a 12 month warranty, but usually a remedy under that warranty is directly with the manufacturer.0 -
Exactly as Wealdroam states
SOGA > manufacturers warranty which is why the 6 month cut off is so important.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

For anything with a long guarantee but a thermal printed receipt, I scan them. Then you can go back with the faded original and a readable "photocopy".The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

I don't understand why the 6 month cut off is important when the goods come with a one year guarantee, please explain.0 -
returned home today to find 2 messages on my answer phone, an hour apart. the first was from ASDA stand-in store manager (stand-in because the original guy i wrote to was on leave.) he was full of apologies and told me to call him back immediately to rectify.
the second, and this cracked a smile, was from the ACTUAL store manager... you know, THE ONE ON LEAVE, from his mobile, offering apologies and an instant refund.
looks like i did something right.0 -

Warranties tend to only offer only one remedy and is subject to various terms, conditions and exclusions. One of the main exclusions is owner misuse. Under the terms of a warranty, there is no imperative on the part of the provider to prove if there has been any misuse. The Sales of Goods Act protects consumers from those presumptions. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

Can't say I fully understand what you are saying, but in the real world if you take something faulty back to any major store after owning it for 6 - 12 months it will either be repaired or replaced. They will not ask you to prove the fault was inherent.0
