My Auntie has recently died and today I have been sent a BR330 form to say that my aunt is owed some state pension.
How/ why is money owed from the state after somebody has died?
I would have thought it would automaticaly stop!
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Perhaps its to do with when state pensions are paid, if they are paid in arrears and your aunt died halfway through the period, then they will owe her estate a few days pension.
It doesnt stop automatically,it cant because they dont know, presumably someone has informed them of her death.
How was the pension paid.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Then its probably what I said in the first place about it being paid in arrears.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

It's the older state pensioners still paid weekly in advance that tend to owe DWP after death. Usually takes about 3 weeks to stop payment after being informed. As stated above the move to 4-weekly payment in arrears means the information may come through in time to stop the next one.0

That means she was paid her pension in arrears- ie after the dates it was due for.
So if she died 15 days into a month, and was paid at the end of the month-for that month. It means there are 15 days pension to come into her estate as that is what accrued before she died.0 -
State Pension is only paid in full weeks. It is not paid for days. The rules are different for people of State Pension age before 6/4/2010 and from that date on. Before that date they were paid in advance and after that date in arrears. It is quite complicated but all you have to do is complete the BR330 and they will issue payment to you. hope this helps and if you need any more info please ask.0
